It’s hard to say that with a straight face these days, as it seems that, like the Gold Rush, the days of NFC Championships and SuperBowls and MVPs are all dried up. When was the last time you saw a 49er in a Toyota Ad? Or a Fruit of the Loom Ad? You see?! The dynasty ended when Jerry crossed the Bay Bridge.
That is, until offensive mastermind Mike Martz came aboard and brought QB, #14 J.T. O’Sullivan, with him. O’Sullivan has an 82.2 QB rating through 5 games (2-3 record), with a 58.6 completion percentage, and 7 TDs with 6 INTs. While those numbers don’t look astounding, when compared to those of the several 49er QBs that took the field by this time last season, they are a pretty welcome improvement.
TJ would be too good to be true. With Ocho Cinco‘s post season tirade only a couple of calendar page turns away, the likelyhood that he will be a Bengal next year seems slim, and losing 85 AND 84 would cement the Bengals as bottom feeders for the foreseeable future.
Roy, on the other hand, is a bit of a wildcard. Tremendous upside, but ball-droppingly bad games are sure to follow him wherever he lands.
To be honest, I wouldn’t mind seeing either (or can you imagine it, BOTH) player(s) land in San Francisco…the sooner the better too…with the NFC West in reach this season, they need to keep their foot on the gas now before the Cardinals are looking back in their rear view mirror.
